How It Plays

This game is designed to be fully co-operative, but does have competitive variations available.

Each player selects a famous literary character (from those provided) to represent themself. All players agree on a Plot to work their way through as said literary character. Each Plot has a Story Book that tells you everything you need to know for that Plot (it's basically a secondary rule book). The first page of the Story Book will tell you which map (board) to start on, as well as where on the board to start, and what to do while you're there.

For example, if the players choose Once and Future, the King Arthur Plot, they all start in Sir Ector's Realm. They look through the box to find the map labelled Sir Ector's Realm and put it on the table. Looking at the Story Book again, they see that all characters start at the map location called "Manor House". They also see that their objective for this map is to find three pieces of Sir Kay's armour, by investigating every location on the map until they're all found.

Investigating is done by rolling a die and comparing it to the character's preassigned stats (on their character card). Characters can also acquire items to help with various types of stat checks, and every character starts the game with three unique items to help them along their way.

As well as investigating to find the armour pieces, characters have to be on their guard against wormholes. Every turn, a new wormhole opens on the map. Characters have to keep closing them down so the story doesn't disintegrate with them in it. Wormholes are closed by resolving a Side Quest, which could be from any one of 75 (and counting!) stories from around the world.

So, grab a character, choose a Plot, and work your way through it, closing down wormholes along the way. Oh, and don't run out of money, or you may become a werewolf...
